Curriculum
The Literacy Lab exists to assist students who are in need of extra help in academic areas. Small groups of individuals visit the Literacy Lab throughout the day to work on activities that will sharpen their learning skills. These students are selected by their teachers based on classroom performance, test scores and grade level diagnostic tests. The lab is designed to meet the unique needs of an individual student’s learning development.
The Literacy Lab houses reading and language arts materials. There are materials for all grade levels which cover skills from letter recognition through beginning research report writing skills, poetry, leveled readers and reader’s theater. These materials are available for the teachers to use in their classrooms to enhance reading and language art concepts. “Parent Reading Volunteers” are coordinated through the Literacy Lab. This group of volunteers comes into the school and works with small groups of students each week. These groups change to meet the needs and ability levels of the students.
